Homemade Disinfecting Spray Cleaner

Homemade spray cleaners are one of the quickest DIY items you can make. Just a few ingredients are measured out, poured into a bottle, and you’re good to go. I usually keep my six favorite homemade cleaners on hand at all times, but go through times where I use one more than the others. Currently, it’s the homemade disinfecting spray that I’m loving the most!
How I Make DIY Disinfectant Spray
A homemade cleaning spray that can help disinfect too will use natural ingredients that have antibacterial properties. This recipe gets it’s antibacterial help from vinegar, soap, and tea tree essential oil.
Tea Tree essential oil is usually reasonably priced and is getting easier to find in many stores such as Target or Walmart. And once you have that ingredient, the other three ingredients (vinegar, soap, and water) are all very ordinary and frugal things easily found in our kitchens. I use these measurements:
- 1-1/2 cups Water
- 1/2 cup White Vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons Dish Soap
- 12 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
And anytime I mix up a homemade cleaner I rely on my set of funnels to get the liquid ingredients into my bottles without losing a drop. I love my funnels!
Finally I add in the tea tree oil. I usually do 12 drops but you could always do a few more if you wish. I think the tea tree oil gives this mixture a “cleaning smell” too. 🙂
Once this DIY cleaner is mixed together I use it in all sorts of places. I use my homemade disinfecting spray on kitchen counters, bathroom counters, sinks, and toilets. Simply spray it on and then wipe with a cloth.
Still Loving My Color-Coded Bottles Too
In addition to making my own cleaners, a few years back I set up my own color-coded cleaning bottle system too. It’s been working great and I’m still loving it! Having a unique color assigned to each cleaner has made it extra-easy to immediately see and grab the cleaner I want. You can read more about how I made these bottles here: DIY Color Coded Cleaning Bottles
But even if you don’t have a fancy color-coded system, any spray bottle of a 16 oz size will work for this homemade disinfecting cleaning spray. Once you give it a try, I think you’ll find yourself using it all the time too!
