Combining your pantry spices into handy homemade mixes can be a great money saver and a simple way to make quick homemade gifts too. Today’s recipe for a mexican fiesta dip spice blend is a perfect example as you can make a frugal batch to keep for yourself, or you can combine these fiesta dip mix ingredients to use as a festive little jar gift too!

How To Make Your Own Fiesta Dip Spice Blend

To make a homemade seasoning mix that can be used to create a dip with those southwestern fiesta flavors, you’ll just need a few common spices. I use these eight spices in my blend:

  • Dried Parsley
  • Dried Minced Onion
  • Chili Powder
  • Cumin
  • Dried Chives
  • Salt
  • Paprika
  • Red Pepper Flakes

I line up all my spice jars like little soldiers and then measure out how much I need of each one and stir everything together. This recipe makes about 7 tablespoons of a dry mix.

To use this mix to make a dip, you’ll combine 1 tablespoon of the mix with a 1/2 cup of sour cream and a 1/2 cup of mayonnaise. Very easy!

Once before I’ve written about this southwestern dip mix recipe but my first recipe made quite a large batch. This new updated recipe is about half the size of the original which I think is a little more user-friendly, especially if you’d like to use this mix as a gift. Here are a couple of ideas and some free printable labels for gifting this mix too!

Using Your Southwestern Dip Mix As A Gift

This dip mix makes a nice little hostess gift or can be a quick holiday gift idea too. If you would like to put this mix in a jar, it fits perfectly into the mini 4 oz size mason jars. If you’re feeling frugal, you could probably put this mix into a recycled spice jar too!

A second idea is to put this mix into a square ziploc storage bag. And for both the jar and the bag ideas, I’ve created a couple simple labels you can use as well. The label for the square ziploc bag can be folded over the top of the bag (I use double sided tape for attaching it to the bag). The instructions for making the dip are on the back side of the label. And finally, if you’re looking for a fun holiday idea, you could even put this mix into a clear plastic ornament!

And while this mix makes a fun DIY food gift, it’s also a nice mix to keep on hand in your own pantry for any time you want to mix up a quick tasty dip.
