If you’re a DIY kind of a person, perhaps you’ve wondered if it’s possible to make your own DIY planner too. The answer is Yes! I’ve been making my own planners for several years now and have discovered it’s a simple way to keep myself a little organized without spending a lot of money and at the same time, customize my planner in a way that works for me. With that in mind, I’ve got lots of free printables to help you make your own planner too!
Getting Started: Helpful DIY Planner Supplies
Before we get to the list of free printables, here’s a quick look at the supplies I use that will help you get started making a homemade planner.
1 – A Notebook or Binder: First, you’ll need some kind of notebook or binder to hold your printables. I’m a big fan of disc bound notebooks, and I’ve always used the smaller junior size notebooks with 8 discs and a poly cover. I’ve been using the Arc brand, but there are other choices too such as this Eagle Discbound Notebook or this Yoment Discbound Notebook with dividers. If you prefer something larger, you could use a letter size notebook with 11 discs or something as simple as a standard 3-ring binder.
2 – Paper Trimmer: The printables for the junior size are printed in landscape orientation and then cut in half. So if you choose to make a junior size planner, a paper trimmer is a good idea as it gives you a nice clean cut for a professional looking planner. I bought my paper trimmer at the craft store, but there are many choices on Amazon too such as this 14″ paper trimmer.
3 – Paper Punch: If you’re using a discbound system, you’ll need a paper punch to make the correct type of holes in your printables. I’ve had an Arc portable punch for many years, which apparently they don’t make anymore. But there are other smaller options such as this Levenger portable punch that will do the trick.
4 – Heavier Paper (optional): Finally, I often use 32 Lb Printer Paper when I print my own planner pages. Of course regular 20 lb paper works too, but the 32 lb creates very nice looking and sturdy planner pages!
Free Planner Printables – More than 30 options to try!
Once you have all your supplies gathered, it’s time to print some pages and put your planner together. All the links below will open a free pdf, yes FREE because I love the idea of folks being able to make their own easy-peasy planners!
A few notes about printing (using Adobe Acrobat Reader for pdf’s):
- When printing the pdf make sure it is set to print at “100%” or “Actual size”.
- The printables for the junior size need to have “landscape” selected for printing.
- If you have “save ink/toner” selected, the pages may print lighter than shown in these photos.
Weekly Planning Pages – Vertical Column Style
A weekly planning page with vertical columns works nicely for writing lists for each day and has always been my favorite choice of style. A couple options have color Style 1 and Style 2, the first being a lighter black & white style, and the second having a few gray tones (style 2 shown below). There are also options for weekly layouts that begin with Monday to mirror a work or school routine.

This style provides blocks of space for each day of the week with lines for writing. Once again, there are options for Sunday start or Monday start, as well as junior size and letter size.

Monthly Planning Pages
While we often plan by the week, it’s also helpful to have planner pages to see an entire month. In addition to the blank months that you can fill in for any month needed, there’s also an option with all 12 months completely dated for 2025 too! (A few more links are coming up below with more dated 2025 calendar options)

And finally, here are a few dated options to see an entire year, including a couple styles set up for a “school year” (from July of one year to June of the next). Currently these are dated for 2025 and there are two color options (blue/lavender and mint/coral), as well as a cover page to add a spot of color to your planner too.

Hi! Thank you so much for making these pages! I have a question about the 12 month – Junior Size – Blue/Lavender and 12 month – Junior Size – Mint/Coral. I’m trying to print them off front and back, but the May, June, July and August are not printing in the correct order. They are printing May-August and June-July instead of May-June and July-August. Thanks!
Oops! That was an error on my part and I’m glad you let me know. I have fixed that and those months should now print correctly back-to-back.
I printed the monthly 2024 calendar half size pages for this year and really like them. Will that be available for 2025 versus the 2 page per month layout?
Thank you for all that you share.
I am was wondering the same thing.
That style has now been added back in to the 2025 styles, back by popular demand! 🙂 You can find them here: https://www.themakeyourownzone.com/free-printables-for-homemade-planners/
