Homemade cleaners often use vinegar or lemon for cleaning power. But if you have any granite surfaces in your home, you know that acidic items like vinegar and lemon are not advised and can dull or scratch the surface. One solution is to replace the vinegar with alcohol instead which gives you a frugal and handy homemade granite cleaning spray.

Ingredients for Homemade Granite Cleaning Spray

Here are the supplies and ingredients you’ll need to make your own cleaner that’s safe for granite surfaces. This recipe is designed for a 16 oz spray bottle and you might have all the ingredients you need in your home already.

Supplies to make homemade granite cleaner
  • 1½ cups water – Like most DIY cleaning sprays, the base of this mixture is good old water.
  • ¼ cup Isopropyl alcohol – This ingredient helps the mixture evaporate more quickly once it’s sprayed on a surface, helping with a streak-free shine. It’s also non-acidic making it safe for granite. Vodka could also be substituted.
  • ¼ teaspoon soap – A little less soap than most DIY cleaners is used in this recipe to also help with a streak-free shine.
  • 10 drops essential oil – This can be an optional ingredient but is a nice addition for fragrance and added anti-bacterial power. I like to use lavender essential oil in this cleaning spray.

Once all your ingredients are gathered together, it’s just a matter of pouring them together into your spray bottle. I always recommend using a funnel for filling spray bottles and keeping a set of funnels on hand really helps if you like to make your own cleaners.

A Few More Notes:

In the photos above, you may have noticed I’m using the 91% strength rubbing alcohol. I usually keep the 91% on hand because I like this stronger strength for a couple other of my homemade recipes which are my homemade hand sanitizer and my homemade Dawn Powerwash refill. You can use either the 70% or the 91% rubbing alcohol in this recipe.

I also want to disclose that I don’t have granite countertops in my house. My countertops that you see in these photos are Cambria quartz. However this cleaner is “safe-for-granite” as it’s a quickly evaporating, low-soap, non-acidic mixture. So I have not personally used it on granite in my own home but I’m happy to report that it’s working very nicely on my quartz too!
