I always like to keep a homemade soft scrub on hand for household cleaning. Not only are DIY soft scrubs super easy to make, they work wonderfully too. You can make your own basic soft scrub with just baking soda and dish soap, but here’s an idea that also adds a little borax to the mixture. It’s a great way to add an extra cleaning boost to your homemade soft scrub recipe!

Another handy thing I’m really liking about this recipe is that you can use equal amounts of each ingredient. This means it’s an easy recipe to remember, easy to make different sized batches, and you only need one measuring utensil. I like to make somewhat smallish batches of my soft scrubs so I’m using the following amounts: 3 Tbl Baking Soda + 3 Tbl Borax + 3 Tbl Dish Soap

To make this homemade soft scrub you’ll begin by mixing together the baking soda and borax. Then I find it’s best to gradually add in the dish soap one tablespoon at a time, stirring the mixture after each addition. This helps you create a soft scrub mixture with a good final consistency. You want to add enough soap to have a soft smooth paste without the mixture being too soupy.

Storing Your Homemade Soft Scrub

After your homemade soft scrub is all stirred together, transfer it to some kind of a container with a tight fitting lid. I’m currently using a small hinged glass jar that’s a nice option as the lid snaps very tightly shut on the top which helps keep the mixture from drying out.

Using Your Homemade Borax Soft Scrub

When it’s time to use your borax soft scrub, just scoop a little dab of it onto a damp sponge and and scrub it around on the surface you with to clean, and then rinse well afterwards. My favorite place to use this soft scrub is on my bathroom sinks, as well as my kitchen sink.

The baking soda and borax in this homemade soft scrub adds a mild abrasiveness to the mixture which also helps with cleaning. If you have any doubts on using it on any surface in your home, test it in a small area first.

Once you give a homemade soft scrub a try, you’ll probably never go back to the store-bought stuff again. They’re quick to make, have natural ingredients, and they work great too!
