DIY Caesar Salad Dressing Mix

| |

Summer is almost here and that means more grilling, more picnics, and more salads. Lots and lots of salads please!

Of course lots and lots of salads means we have to think about salad dressings too. This summer instead of reaching for my usual boring bottle of ranch dressing, I’ve decided to challenge myself to get a little better at making my own oil based vinaigrette dressings.

To start things off, I mixed up a batch of this homemade Caesar Salad Dressing Mix. It’s a little twist on the usual creamy Caesar dressings and instead mixes spices with oil and lemon juice. The ingredients can be quickly shaken together in a jar and it’s easy on the budget too.

Ingredients to make a Caesar Dressing Mix

Here are the dry ingredients to mix together to make a batch of this make-ahead Caesar dressing mix. You will need:

  • 6 tablespoons grated parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
A batch of homemade caesar dressing mix

When it’s time to use your mix for a batch of dressing, you’ll combine a 1/4 cup of the mix with a 1/2 cup of oil and a 1/4 cup of lemon juice. The best way to mix this dressing is to give all the ingredients a good shake in a jar.

Once everything is mixed together, slowly drizzle the dressing over your salad greens, mixing as you go, until you have the desired amount of dressing on your salad. Top your Caesar salad with grated parmesan cheese and croutons. (You can also make your own croutons!)

Ingredients:

  • 6 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

To Make a Batch of Dressing

  • 1/4 cup dry dressing mix
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions:

  • Combine the dry ingredients to make the dressing mix and store in a covered container.
  • When you want to use the mix to make a batch of dressing, shake together in a jar 1/4 cup of the mix with a 1/2 cup of oil and a 1/4 cup of lemon juice and pour over your salad greens.

Notes:

The grated parmesan cheese used in this recipe is the powdery stuff in the can that has a longer shelf life, which works better than freshly grated parmesan.
