It’s always good to have a few quick and easy recipes you can depend on when you don’t have the time and energy to do anything complicated or fancy – BUT – you still need something tasty. This two ingredient cream cheese salsa dip fits perfectly into that category as it’s super simple to make and I’ve always found it to be a real crowd pleaser too!

Recipe for cream cheese salsa dip

I’ve been making this dip for probably close to 20 years now. I’ve made it for summer picnics and for winter Christmas parties. And whenever I bring it somewhere, it’s always one of the first things to disappear.

So what are the two easy ingredients in this magical dip? A block of cream cheese + a jar of salsa (or jar of picante sauce). In fact most of the time at our house we call this “picante dip” but a long time ago I quit being fussy about whether I used a jar of salsa or a jar of picante sauce. Either one works!

And I don’t worry too much about the size of the jar of salsa either. As long as it’s somewhere close to a 16 oz size, it works. I usually opt for mild salsa in this recipe, but if you like a little more kick in your dip, you can use a salsa with more heat too.

To make this dip you need to start out with softened cream cheese. The cream cheese can always be softened a little bit in the microwave too if your cream cheese is still cold from the refrigerator. I usually then use my electric hand mixer to get the cream cheese beaten a little bit first, and then add the salsa and continue to beat with the hand mixer until everything is smooth and well mixed together.

And then you put it on the table with a big bowl of tortilla chips, or some crackers, or some fresh cut veggies, and watch it be devoured 🙂

Even though this cream cheese salsa dip takes very little effort to prepare, it’s still considered a special homemade treat at our house because I’ve never found anything ready-made that’s quite like it. And when that’s the case, you know it’s time to just make your own!
