DIY Halloween Treat – Ghost Pretzels!

It only takes 3 ingredients to make this Halloween treat that’s a fun little snack for both kids and grownups. Not only are there lots of different spooky screaming ghost faces for everyone to enjoy, the sweet and salty flavors are a crowd pleaser too.

Ingredients for Ghost Pretzels

To make your own ghost pretzel treats you’ll need three ingredients: Mini twist pretzels, white candy melting wafers (or white chocolate), and decorative candy eyeballs. Yes, this recipe calls for some eyeballs ๐Ÿ™‚

Craft stores can be a good place to find the candy melting wafers and the decorative eyeballs. I was able to find all these ingredients just on my usual shopping travels:

Pretzels – from my local Meijer grocery store
Melting Wafers – from my local Aldi store
Candy Eyeballs – from my local Walmart store

You could also use white chocolate chips or white almond bark as the melting ingredient to cover your pretzels.

Steps For Making Ghost Pretzel Treats

Once you have all your ingredients gathered together, you can follow these steps to start making your ghost pretzels:

Step 1 – Cover a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.

Step 2 – Melt the candy coating: Place some of your melting wafers in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds and stir. Then continue in 15 second increments as needed until completely melted.

Step 3 – Dip the Pretzels: Using a fork, dip the pretzels into the melted coating, turning to coat the pretzel completely. Then lift it out of the melted candy coating and let the coating drip out of all three holes of the pretzel. Then place onto the wax paper.

Step 4 – Add a little more coating in the top two holes: For this next step, I found it worked best to use a very small spoon so I could drizzle a little more of the coating into the top two holes of the pretzel where we’ll be adding the decorative eyeballs.

Step 5 – Add the candy eyeballs. Finally, place a couple of the candy eyeballs on the top of the pretzel.

Step 6 – Let harden. After setting for about 30 minutes, your ghost pretzels should be hardened. If you need to speed things up, you can place them in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes also.

No Two Ghost Pretzels are Alike!

This recipe isn’t complicated, but it is a little fiddly. The candy coating covers each pretzel a little differently, and the candy eyeballs are tiny little things that may test your patience. But for this project I would encourage you to embrace the randomness and enjoy each unique little ghost pretzel. If some of them end up with kind of weird howling mouths and wonky eyes, that’s OK!

Notes:

My 10 oz bag of melting wafers was enough to cover 50 of the mini twist pretzels.
You could also use white chocolate chips or almond bark to melt for coating the pretzels.
