Skillet Jambalaya Recipe
I hope I never get tired of learning or trying new things, especially trying new recipes. It can be easy to just fall into our recipe routines, but we need to remind ourselves that variety is indeed the spice of life. And that’s why I decided to add a little variety and started making this skillet jambalaya recipe, which adds a kick of spice to life too!
What gives this recipe its flavor is the Cajun seasoning. I’ve been using my homemade Cajun seasoning spice blend and use about 1-1/2 teaspoons in this Jambalaya recipe. Of course you can use more or less to suit your own taste. I usually recommend that if you are in doubt to add the seasoning gradually and do a taste test because you can always put more seasoning in but you can’t take it back out.
To make this skillet jambalaya, you’ll begin with just a little bit of slicing and dicing. You’ll need to dice up some green pepper and onion, and some sausage or kielbasa. If I have some fresh garlic I dice that too, but on this particular day I just used the jarred stuff. While you’re slicing and dicing you’re also going to cook some rice.
Once the ingredients are ready to go, you can start cooking everything together in your skillet. Begin by sauteing the peppers, onions, and garlic, and then add the meat and saute a little longer. Then you’ll add a can of diced tomatoes and the cooked rice. Finally, you’ll add some spice blend and let everything simmer so the flavors can mingle together.
So that’s the method I use to make a simple homemade jambalaya. Sometimes we add a bit of chicken to the skillet too, an ingredient that many traditional jambalaya recipes include. So if you’re looking for a little variety in the weekly menu plan, this handy skillet meal is a nice addition and fun flavor adventure too!

- 1⅓ cups water or broth (or a combination)

Instructions:
- Bring the water and/or broth to a boil in a saucepan on the stove. Add the rice, stir, turn the heat to low, and cover. Simmer for 20 minutes to let the rice absorb the liquid.
- While the rice is simmering, begin cooking the other ingredients. Place the oil in a large skillet and heat on the stove. Then add the diced onion, diced green pepper, minced garlic and saute for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the meat and saute for another 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the the can of tomatoes (undrained) to the skillet.
- When the rice is done cooking, add the rice to the skillet and stir to mix everything together.
- Finally add the cajun seasoning. Let everything simmer for a few minutes to let the flavors meld.
