Easy Homemade Hummus

I like to think I have a pretty well stocked recipe box, but it has never included a good hummus recipe. Hummus just wasn’t something my Dutch ancestors were whipping up and so I never had much exposure to it. But in the last few years I’ve been a little more adventurous and starting buying hummus once in a while at the grocery store deli and have been keeping an eye out for a good hummus recipe to add to my stash.

This easy food processor recipe was a success and tasted better (in my opinion) than some of the store bought hummus I’ve tried. The combination of the cumin and the fresh lemon juice was excellent.

Here’s how to do it:

Homemade Hummus Recipe

Ingredients:

2 – 7.75 oz cans garbanzo beans (also known as chickpeas) – drained
1/2 cup tahini
1/4 cup olive oil
Juice from one lemon (about 1/4 cup)
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/8 tsp cayenne
1/2 cup water

Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. You may want to open up the food processor and scrape the sides and then process a little bit more.

Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate until serving.

  1. I love hummus! I am 1/2 Lebanese and grew up on this. I will give yours a try. However, I must tell you that to get the creamiest possible hummus, you have to use the chick pea flour. It will be smooth and creamy,no lumps!!! Also, never EVER(LOL) use anything but fresh garlic!!!!!
