Make your own play sand for the little ones using this frugal mixture made with flour and oil. Using whole wheat flour gives this mixture the look of natural sand too.
Yield: 8cups
Author: Beverly
Materials:
8cupsWhole Wheat Flour
1 cupVegetable Oil
Instructions:
Place the flour in a large mixing bowl.
Add the oil and and mix to combine. A pastry cutter tool works well to get the ingredients mixed well together.
Once the oil is incorporated into the flour, your play sand is ready. You can give it a little test by picking some up in your hand and squeezing it together as you make a fist. If it is not sticking together well, you can add in a bit more oil.
Transfer the mixture to a shallow container with sides so the kids can play. A container with a lid is helpful for putting the mixture away when you are done too.
Notes:
You can make this play sand in larger or smaller batches too. Just use a formula of using a 1/4 cup of oil for each 2 cups of flour.Regular white all-purpose flour could also be used, but the play sand will be a lighter color and won't look as much like natural sand.
