Holiday Snowman Jar Gift Ideas
Quart jars are handy for giving food gifts, and these two snowman ideas make them just a little bit more festive!
Materials:
- Quart canning jar with lid
- Black paper (I used scrapbook paper)
- Black paint and paintbrush
- Fabric cut to 1½" x 20"
- Buttons
- Scrap of orange paper (if making a face with nose)
- Paper punch (to help make circles for face)
- Doubled sided tape or glue
Hot Chocolate Mix (for jar #2)
- 1/2 cup Nesquick powdered drink mix
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup dry milk powder
- 1/3 cup powdered creamer
- mini marshmallows and baggie
Instructions:
Jar #1 Idea (with no face)
- To make the top of the jar look like a hat, paint the jar lid black (both the ring and band if using that type of lid).
- To make a brim for the hat, place the canning jar upside down on the black paper and trace around the opening. Draw another circle about 1" larger around that circle. (I found it easiest to use another item of the appropriate larger size and trace around it). Cut out the circle, and then cut out the inner circle, so that you now have a ring to be a rim for the hat. You may need to trim the circle a bit as needed to fit around the neck of your jar.
- Fill the quart jar with the treat of your choice. (I used white wrapped mints so the jar would look white like a snowman)
- Tie the fabric piece around the top of the jar for a scarf.
- Attach buttons to the front of the jar with double sided tape or glue.
- Place the black ring that you cut out around the top of the jar, and screw on the black lid.
Jar Idea #2 (with face & hot chocolate mix)
- Paint the lid black and cut out the black rim as in the instructions for Jar #1.
- Stir together the hot chocolate mix ingredients and place in the bottom of the jar.
- Put some mini marshmallows in a baggie and place on top of the hot chocolate mix in the jar.
- Place the black ring that you cut out around the top of the jar, and screw on the black lid.
- Tie the fabric strip around the middle of the jar for a scarf.
- Attach a couple of buttons to the bottom half of the jar under the scarf.
- Use the paper punch to cut out black circles for the face. Attach to the top half of the jar using two small circles for the eyes and five small circles for the mouth. Cut a small triangle from a scrap of orange paper and attach for a nose.
- Add a tag with instructions to use a 1/4 cup of hot chocolate mix with 8 oz of hot water to make a cup of cocoa.
