Homemade hand sanitizers are simple to make, but they usually have a very thin consistency. This recipe adds a small amount of coconut oil to the mixture to give it a bit of thickening help.
Yield: 4ozs
Author: Beverly
Materials:
1/2cup91% Isopropyl Alcohol(see notes below for 70% Alcohol)
1/4cupAloe Vera Gel
1/2tspCoconut Oil
Instructions:
Combine the alcohol and the aloe vera in a mixing bowl and whisk or stir to mix them together.
Put the 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds to melt the coconut oil.
Add the melted coconut oil to the alcohol/gel mixture and stir to combine.
I usually let the mixture sit in the bowl for about an hour, and the mixture will thicken up just a bit more during that time.
Pour the mixture into a small squeezable bottle(s). Travel size shampoo bottles work well for this purpose.
Notes:
If you cannot find the 91% alcohol and want to use 70%, you will have to reduce the aloe vera gel to only 4 teaspoons for this mixture to be strong enough. You may then wish to omit the coconut oil as it might not provide enough thickening anyway. You'll also probably want to put the mixture in a small spray bottle rather than a squeeze bottle.
