Peppermint White Hot Chocolate

Today’s recipe is a sweet little homemade indulgence made the old fashioned way.  It doesn’t use any powdered mixes or shortcuts.  Instead it uses the tried and true method of making homemade hot chocolate – heating things up in a saucepan on the stove.

You’ll find yourself enjoying this version of hot chocolate if you also enjoy the taste of white baking chips (which I do!).  Some people debate if the white baking chips are really “chocolate” but it works for me.  A peppermint tea bag is added to this mixture too which gives it a touch of subtle peppermint flavor.

This recipe is just for a single cup serving – just one mug of goodness when you want something a little extra special during the holidays or the cold days of winter!

Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Peppermint Tea Bag
  • ¼ cup White Baking Chips

Place the milk and peppermint tea bag in a small saucepan and heat on the stove until the milk is warm and steamy and bubbles are starting to form around the edges (you do not want it to boil).  This will take about 3 to 5 minutes. Then bring the heat down to a simmer and let the tea bag steep for a couple more minutes.  Remove tea bag.

Add the white baking chips and whisk (and keep whisking!) until the chips are melted.

Pour into a mug.  You can add a candy cane for garnish and extra peppermint flavor.

Note:  When I tried this in a microwave, the chips did not melt and blend in as well and that’s why I recommend the stovetop method.

As has been my usual practice, I’ll be taking a short break from blogging during the Christmas holidays but I’ll be back in the new year with more “make your own” ideas to share.

I wish you all many blessings as well as a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
