Homemade Cajun Seasoning Blend
I love seasoning blends. They’re such a simple way to add a little flavor and fun to your home cooking. A few shakes of this spice or that spice can really jazz up what would otherwise be a boring weeknight meal.
So yes , I enjoy spice blends and have fun using them – BUT – I don’t really enjoy buying them ready made at the store. So often they come in big bottles that take me forever to use up that have big price tags I don’t like paying. There’s a solution to that little problem though. . .
Make your own! { of course } 🙂
The latest spice blend I wanted to try was a Cajun spice blend to use in a jambalaya recipe. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not from a part of the country where Cajun cooking is the familiar regional thing. I’m more of a “Give me some corn-on-the-cob” kind of Michigan gal. But after doing some research on Cajun spice blends, I think I’ve got the some of the traditional flavors included in the mixture I created, even if I am from the Great White North.
My family gave this Cajun seasoning mix a thumbs up and I very much enjoyed that this blend has a little heat but doesn’t rely on the chili powder or cumin flavors that I so often use. It was a nice little change of pace.
