Chicken Seasoning Spice Blend

Keeping a little bottle of this chicken seasoning spice blend in the kitchen can sure come in handy on those nights when once again you’re wondering:

What can I make with chicken ??

We eat chicken a lot at our house and I’m guessing that’s pretty common in other households too.  We have chicken at least once a week, sometimes more.  For those times when we just want to toss some chicken on the grill, or just pop it in the oven without going to any big fuss, a little sprinkle of this chicken seasoning helps to kick up the flavor a notch with very little effort.

And really, this chicken seasoning can be used any time you want to liven up some chicken whether it’s for using in a casserole or chicken salad, or for when you want to make your own rotisserie chicken in the crockpot.

Learning to use your spices is a quick and easy way to save money too.  I always make my own seasoning for taco meat and we love our homemade Montreal steak seasoning.  Homemade spice blends can be made to suit your own personal tastes and preferences and it can even be kind of fun to keep tweaking them and trying different combinations.

For instance you can add a touch of heat to this chicken seasoning spice blend with the addition of a little bit of ground cayenne pepper ~OR~ you can substitute white pepper for the black pepper ~OR~ you can try adding some southwestern flavors with a bit of chili powder or cumin.  Feel free to get creative!

Here’s how to get started with a basic blend using common spices you probably already have in your pantry.

Chicken Seasoning Spice Blend

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Combine all ingredients and mix well.  I store my chicken seasoning in a Small Glass Spice Bottle.  To use, sprinkle on raw chicken before baking or grilling.

Make your own chicken seasoning spice blend

A very basic recipe using this seasoning is to place your raw chicken breasts (or chicken tenderloins) in a glass baking pan, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with the chicken seasoning, and then bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the thickness of your chicken breasts or tenderloins.  Keep putting your spices to good use by making some seasoned rice  to go with the chicken, add a vegetable too, and dinner is served!
