Last Minute Hot Fudge Sauce

Here’s a quick and clever way to make your own spur of the moment chocolate sauce. This recipe is handy for those occasions when you’ve got the urge to make hot fudge sundaes but don’t have a bottle of chocolate syrup on hand. If you’ve got some chocolate chips in the pantry, you can make do. It’s also a nice alternative if you’re a person who only wants chocolate sauce once in a while and you don’t want to buy a whole bottle of chocolate syrup.

Last Minute Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup chocolate chips
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine the chocolate chips and the water in a microwave safe bowl and heat in microwave until chips are soft and starting to melt. This will take about one minute. Remove from microwave and stir until smooth. If there are still some lumps of chips, microwave for a few seconds more. Finally, stir in the teaspoon of vanilla.

Serve immediately over ice cream. Makes about four servings.

  1. I would wonder if maybe the chocolate got too hot. I've had this happen to me in the microwave and it was because I used a bowl that apparently wasn't microwave safe and the bowl got really hot. The chocolate got all lumpy and chalky just as you described. Sorry you weren't able to turn that easter bunny into some good sauce 🙁

  2. I tried this…I actually melted down a nice Russell Stover's milk chocolate easter bunny, because I needed to use it up. The minute I put the vanilla in, it started to curdle. I added the water…it didn't help. I micro'd it for another 30 seconds, thinking maybe some heat would help it. The chocolate turned chalky and lumpy and never did get a liquid consistency again. Do you think it was because it was milk chocolate instead of semi-sweet?
