Skip the Manwich and Make Easy Homemade BBQ
I’ve thought about sharing my go-to recipe for homemade BBQ many times, but then always decided against it. Why?
Because I never measure anything.
Is it even really a recipe?
But the more I thought about it I decided this is a good thing to share because it’s more than a recipe. It’s a strategy. And it’s a strategy that can save time and money and put a quick and easy meal on the table.
So yeah, it’s time to share!
To make this homemade BBQ, I rely on ketchup, mustard, worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar which I always keep on hand. These ingredients get added to a pound of browned ground beef. Once everything is simmered together you can serve on buns and dinner is ready!
Even without measuring you really can’t go wrong. After you’ve made a few batches you’ll discover too that this method is pretty foolproof and is great to fall back on when you don’t feel like making anything more complicated and is probably a cheaper DIY solution than using a can of Manwich too!
Here’s how I do it:
Easy No-Measure BBQ
Ingredients:
-
1 Lb of Ground Beef
-
Ketchup
-
Mustard
-
Worcestershire Sauce
-
Brown Sugar
Brown the pound of ground beef in a fry pan and drain any excess grease.
Next, squirt some ketchup in with the ground beef. The ketchup is the main ingredient that will moisten the mixture and it’s the ingredient you will use the most of.
Next, squirt in some mustard. I just squirt it around a couple of times. Here’s a picture of what’s going on so far. Not too glamorous yet but it gets better!
I then stir the ketchup and mustard into the ground beef and make sure the mixture is moist enough and is starting to look like BBQ consistency. If it’s still a little dry, I’ll squirt in some more ketchup. I will confess that in the picture above, I was just a smidge heavier on the ketchup than usual because I was using up a bottle (but it was still all good).
After the ketchup and mustard are mixed in, I add a few dashes of the worcestershire sauce (about four or five) and a couple spoonfuls of brown sugar. I mix those ingredients in and then let everything simmer and heat together for five to ten minutes so the flavors can mingle.
And that’s it! Your homemade BBQ is ready to scoop onto hamburg buns and serve.
{ with some pickles and chips too please }
Even though these are very simple and humble ingredients, this is a yummy mixture and always gets gobbled up quickly at my house.
How about you? Do you have a favorite non-recipe strategy like this for homemade BBQ or another easy supper?

Have you tried this with honey instead of brown sugar?
