I can’t hardly believe it’s October already.  It seems like this year has gone so fast.  But there’s a chill in the air and the leaves are starting to turn colors and before you know it winter will be upon us.

{{ I will try not to think about that }}

Here are my favorite finds for the month of October from my travels around the internet:

This month, why not try making your own . . . .

- Homemade Fruit and Veggie Wash
Homemade Fruit and Veggie Wash Recipe

There are ready made products for cleaning vegetables such as Citrus Magic or you can try this easy homemade version using vinegar, water, baking soda and lemon juice.  In a pinch you can simply use a vinegar and water mixture.  (Looks like I just found another good use for my Basic Homemade All Purpose Cleaner !).

- Homemade Candy Corns

Feeling ambitious?  How about making your own candy corns this year? With some common ingredients like butter, sugar, and milk, some food coloring, and a little patience, you can impress your family with cute little homemade candy corns.

- Elderberry Syrup
Elderberry Syrup for Colds and Flu

If you’re looking for a natural remedy for the upcoming cold and flu season, check out this recipe for Elderberry Syrup.  People have been using elderberries for centuries for their medicinal properties.

- Homemade Deodorant
Homemade Natural Deodorant Stick

Even though I’m not quite ready to give up store bought deodorant, I found this to be a good post on the process of making your own deodorant stick.  Baking soda is the primary ingredient which is formed into a paste with some coconut oil.

- Halloween Jello Brains
Brain Jello Mold

And finally, just for fun, I came across this jello mold in the shape of brain that’s kind of silly, gross, and fun all at the same time (like a lot of things at Halloween time).  This jello mold would be an easy way to make a creepy homemade Halloween treat.  Hopefully after Halloween you would cease and desist using your brain mold.  Couldn’t you just see someone plopping this on the Sunday dinner table?   Oh My !!  :-D
